Ask Yourself - Just How Badly Do You Want It?

If there's one thing I can tell you about my experiences in Iraq, you should always expect the unexpected.

Especially when it comes to eating the food there.

It reminds me of the day I went to the doctor and I found out some bad news.

I found out that something I ate didn't agree to well with my stomach. In fact, the only thing that agreed with me and my stomach was the toilet.

Regardless of how ice cold the seat was, I found myself running back and forth to spend time in the bathroom so I would have plenty of time to think twice about eating the wrong thing again.

But after my small "time-out" I got up, walked back to my room and continued to write. I was forced to take a break yet again during the wee hours of the night, but once "da bizness" was done, it was back to the business of writing.

Why do you ask?

Simple. Because I want to. No one is going to do it for me so if it's gonna be done, yours truly is gonna have to do it.

Success comes at a price, and a brief potty break here and there sure ain't gonna break me.

If there's one thing I've noticed about successful people, regardless of what they try to do, it all boils down to how badly they want something to happen.

I can remember watching Bill Phillips documentary, "Body of Work". It's the true story of his EAS fitness competition where he searched for one fitness spokesperson to represent his ideal vision of bodybuilding.

In the video, a 40-something bartender named Porter Freeman sat down in front of the camera and literally set his mind to winning the competition. Bill Phillips wrote, "If you can't get excited about this contest, go and start an ant farm."

Porter, being the stud he is, said that this particular comment pissed him off so bad, that he started right then and there on winning the contest. He vowed to himself, "I'm gonna make 12 weeks or DIE!" He was so confident of his ability to win the contest the gym owner even gave him a key to the gym so he could work out at night!

That's conviction with a capital "C".

Later on in the video, the ten semi-finalists sat around a table and discussed their number one principle of success. Bill wanted to know what was their motivating force; what kept them going when hundreds of others dropped out of the competition.

Again, Porter was in pure form. His answer was simple. "You gotta want it...you gotta want it more than anything else."

Nuff said.

A mark a successful people have is they will do whatever it takes to succeed. There is no such thing as defeat. Defeat is simply one way it didn't work to successful people. So they discard that one and find what works.

Porter didn't let 40-something years of neglect destroy his spirit, I'm not letting a stomach virus and the poopies stop me, and if you really want to get in shape, nothing's gonna stop you either.

How bad do you want it? Ask yourself that and answer it honestly. While you're thinking about that, I've got to make another run. I don't know what I ate, but I won't be eating it again
